Brief Description of Technical/Scientific Achievements

  • Capability of water quality analyses of 34 water parameters/ characteristics.
  • Analyses/ assessment of raw as well as supply water samples during pre monsoon and post monsoon seasons from 13 districts of Uttarakhand has been done for 2010 and 2011.
  • Water sample collection, preservation and methods of water quality analyses done as per BIS and APHA specifications.
  • Selection of water sample collection sites/ stations has been done in accordance to UJS, Dehradun recommendations in 13 districts of Uttarakhand state, which are all major drinking water sources.
  • Third party analysis of water samples is being carried out from
    1. Shri Ram Institute for Industrial Research, New Delhi
    2. Pollution Control Research Institute, BHEL, Haridwar to verify water quality data of lab.
  • The present lab is providing technical support for research and development to three other WTI/DST projects in Uttarakhand besides other analysis/ R&D work of water sector departments of state and other agencies.
  • Involvement of all key stakeholders with appropriate use of technology for various activities.
  • UJS has started taking corrective measures at problem sites, which has gained consumer confidence.
  • Networking with water sector organization for data, knowledge and resources and technical expertise and avoid duplication of efforts.
  • Referral lab of state for water quality analysis through UJS.
  • ISO -14001 (2004) certification processing/planning for lab in future
  • Better quality in adequate quantity of supplied water by continuous monitoring and surveillance by UJS.
  • National collaboration established with National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), GOI, Roorkee and Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Center (USERC), Govt. of Uttarakhand, Dehradun.
  • International collaboration established with University of Applied Sciences, Dresden, Germany.
