Celebration of 6th Regional Science Centre Foundation Day and E-Waste Awareness Program at UCOST – 2022

The sixth Regional Science Center Foundation day is celebrated on 3, Feb, 2022 at Vigyan Dham, UCOST. The inaugural session was addressed by Dr. Rajendra  Dobhal, Director General, UCOST. In his speech he stressed the need of growth in Science and Technology with a view to popularize Science and develop scientific temper amongst the people in the state. On this occasion Prof. Sanjay Jasola (Director General, Technology Business Incubator, Graphic Era University), Sh. Rakesh Oberai (Chairman, Oberai Motors, Dehradun), Prof. A.N. Purohit (Former VC of HNBGU and Chairman, NASI -UK Chapter), Dr. Shashi Ahuja (former Advisor of DST) and Sh G.S.Rautela (Advisor, Science City) were present. Sh G.S.Rautela gave brief background history of how museum started in India. Dr Ajit Chaturvedi (Director, IIT Roorkee) and  Prof. Ashok Misra, (Former director, IIT Bombay) addressed the audience via virtual mode and talked about scientific temper and various research innovations launched by IITs. This session was coordinated by Dr K. N. Bhardwaj, Scientific Officer and in-Charge RSC. The vote of thanks of the inaugural ceremony was delivered by Dr. D. P. Uniyal, Joint Director, UCOST.

In afternoon session the programme on E-waste awareness: Management & Minimization, was organized by Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Dehradun; National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, government of India and National Academy of Science (NASI), Allahabad, Uttarakhand Chapter. The chief guest of the programme, Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST & Secretary, NASI-UK chapter. Dr. N.A. Siddiqui, Program Director, HSE, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun delivered a lecture on E-waste management for sustainable resources conservation. After that, Er. Prashant Raturi, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Swami Ram Himalayan University, Dehradun delivered an informative hands on training about the handling/repairing of E-waste including desktops, computers, and laptops and mobiles with battery. This was followed by the awareness and cultural program by RJ Kaavya and Team of OHO Radio. Dr Dobhal addresses and enlightens the audience on the matter of E-Waste management and need of awareness regarding the proper disposal of E-Waste. At the end, Dr. M.S. Rawat, Scientific Officer, UCOST convey the vote of thanks. Ms Kanchan Dobhal (UCOST) coordinated this E-Waste awareness program. In this occasion Dr B. P. Purohit (Advisor- Skill Vigyan), Dr Ashutosh Mishra (Sr Scientific Officer), Er Jitendra Kumar (Scientific Officer), Shri Amit Pokhriyal (PRO UCOST), Dr Aparna Sharma (Sr Scientific Officer), Dr Manmohan Rawat (Scientific Officer), Mr Manoj Kanyal (UCOST) Dr Sakshi Painuli (Scientist-B, UCB) and whole staff of UCOST, RSC and Biotech Council were present.  More than 200 students, faculty members and officers participated in this program through online and offline mode.
