Launch of DBT Skill Vigyan Program and Celebration of ‘National Science Day-2021’

Launch of DBT Skill Vigyan Program was held on 25th Feb, 2021 along with the Celebration of National Science Day-2021 in joint collaboration of UCOST, DBT & NASI UK chapter. Dr Aparna Sharma, Sr. Scientific Officer, UCOST & Coordinator of the program gave a welcome address & briefed about the program. Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST welcomed all the guest and participants.  He told that UCOST has started the DBT Skill vigyan Program with 5 partner’s institutes named: AIIMS, Rishikesh; H.N.B. Garhwal University; Srinagar; Kumaun University, Nainital, G.B. Pant National Institute of Himayan Environment, Kosi Katarmal, Almora and G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantanagar. He said that main focus of  STI policy 2020 is on effective use of Science and Technology for Innovation. He also told that Skill, Innovation and Startup supplement each other, so Innovation Ecosystem has to be developed. Prof D.K. Maheshwari, Former Vice Chancellor, Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar congratulated UCOST for DBT Skill Vigyan Program launch. Mr Ashok Windlas, CMD, Windalas Biotech Pvt. Ltd. said that student should take deep subject knowledge for expertise in any field.  Dr Manoj Rohila, Coordinator, DBT Skill Vigyan Progam, DBT, Govt. of India, New Delhi joined the program virtually and briefed about the project and its implementation. In his online presence, MoU was signed between UCOST and their partner institutes. Shri G. S. Rautela, Advisor, Science City, Dehradun told about the future plan of Science City, Dehradun. The chief guest of the program, Padma shree Prof R.N.K. Bamezai, Former Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Katra, Jammu & Kashmir delivered a keynote lecture on National Science Day 2021 on Theme: Future of STI: Impact on Education, Skills and Work. He told the audience since 1987 this day is being celebrated across India. The first policy of Science & Technology was developed in 1958 and 2013, now in 2020 draft of Science Technology & Innovation (STI) policy has been released, which main focus is on science communication and its policy implementation. He also told about the DBT launch program. He said that our skills can be developed by skill development trainings, on the basis, this DBT Skill program was designed. Dr D.P.Uniyal, Joint Director, UCOST delivered a vote of thanks to the guest, participants and all the council’s staff. The session was quite interactive. Students asked their queries to the keynote speakers. Approximately 150 participants from Woman Institute of Technology, Dehradun; Dev Bhoomi Institute of Technology, Dehradun; Uttaranchal University, Dehradun; Maya Group of Institutions Dehradun, Garphic Era University and UCOST staff  attended the program.
