Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam


India's 11th president Dr. Kalam who came to known as people Presidents died on Monday during a lecture at IIM Shilong. Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, DG UCOST remembered his golden moments which he had shared with Dr. Kalam at various occasions. He paid his tribute to the former president with his staff at UCOST. He also mention that this is a great loss to nation and humanity.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen "A. P. J." Abdul Kalam : (15 October 1931 - 27 July 2015)

Dr. Kalam was the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. A career scientist turned reluctant politician, Kalam was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at theDefence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and was intimately involved in India's civilian space program and military missile development efforts. He thus came to be known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He also played a pivotal organizational, technical and political role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, the first since the original nuclear test by India in 1974 He received several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.

English is necessary as at present original works of science are in English. I believe that in two decades times original works of science will start coming out in our languages. Then we can move over like the Japanese.

If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher.

We will be remembered only if we give to our younger generation a prosperous and safe India, resulting out of economic prosperity coupled with civilizational heritage.

Educationists should build the capacities of the spirit of inquiry, creativity, entrepreneurial and moral leadership among students and become their role model..

Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work.

My message, especially to young people is to have courage to think differently, courage to invent, to travel the unexplored path, courage to discover the impossible and to conquer the problems and succeed. These are great qualities that they must work towards. This is my message to the young people.

Don't take rest after your first victory because if you fail in second, more lips are waiting to say that your first victory was just luck.

Man needs difficulties in life because they are necessary to enjoy the success

All of us do not have equal talent. But , all of us have an equal opportunity to develop our talents.

This great man with modesty, simple thinking and great living sets a standing example of innovation in the thought process for decades. APJ had massively contributed his knowledge and observations during the nuclear tests of Pokhran - II that were done in the year 1998. Kalam also penned a popular book, India 2020, where he laid foundation for the vision to see a developed India by the year 2020.
